Dishoom – the chain paying homage to the Irani cafés that were once part of the fabric of life in Bombay – has a vegan brunch, lunch & dinner menu packed full of dishes worth writing home about – I absolutely love their vegan sausages for brunch, and their chickpea curries are divine.
But their showstopper has to be the Bhel, followed closely by the vegan samosas. I wish they did the Bhel as a main. I think next time I’m just going to order 3 x Bhel because why mess about when you’ve found THE ONE.
In their words, the Bhel is “Cold and crunchy, light and lovely. Puffed rice, Bombay Mix and nylon sev tossed with fresh pomegranate, tomato, onion, lime, tamarind, mint.” You have to experience it to believe it.
And the samosas – they are just so incredibly fresh, flavoursome and warming. All at once. With that chilli sauce, it doesn’t get much better.
Dishoom have five locations in London – Kensington, Shoreditch, King’s Cross, Carnaby & Covent Garden – as well as a branch in Edinburgh and one opening up in Manchester next month.
You will queue, and it will be worth it.
