Crispy-chilli sesame broccoli

I like my broccoli to not really taste like broccoli. So I cover it generously in sesame oil, soy sauce, chilli & sesame seeds and then roast it to achieve a crispy/burnt texture.

Hardly a recipe, this is more a declaration of how simple it is to dramatically improve the flavour and texture of a super veggie with health benefits you ought not to miss out on. Just a cup of cooked broccoli offers as much vitamin C as an orange. It also contains vitamins K, B1, B2, B3, B6, iron, magnesium, potassium, ,zinc. And of course it’s an excellent source of fibre.

For one ‘tree’ of broccoli, I recommend mixing together:

  • 50ml sesame oil
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 chilli (add according to taste)
  • 2 tbsp sesame seeds

Once mixed, pour over broccoli and roast until it starts to look burnt. Ramp up the volume of all ingredients the more you want to disguise the taste of broccoli.
